Centralna Bosna kao regionalno područje sa gradom Travnikom u XIX i XX / Central Bosnia as a Regional Area with the City of Travnik in the 19th and 20th Centuries

Abstract

In the Lašva Valley, rural and urban settlements have formed throughout history. Since the Middle Ages, Travnik has been the urban center of Central Bosnia. Its geographical position has allowed the city of Travnik to be a vizier's city for 150 years and thus the military-administrative center of Bosnia during the Ottoman period (1699–1850). From the 1860s, the city of Travnik had the status of one of the six Sanjaks of Bosnia, and during the Austro-Hungarian administration it was the center of the Travnik District. In the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Travnik had the status of a district until 1929. During the socialist development of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Travnik became a strong industrial center and the center of inter-municipal institutions. During the war from 1992–1995, Travnik was the center of a district within which defense, economic, and humanitarian activities were organized. Since the Washington Peace Agreement, Travnik has become the center of the Central Bosnia Canton. As a multiethnic area, the Central Bosnia Canton includes the municipalities of: Travnik, Vitez, Busovača, Kiseljak, Donji Vakuf, Bugojno, Gornji Vakuf, Uskoplje, Jajce, Doboretiće, Fojnica, Novi Travnik, Kreševo. The Central Bosnia Canton has become the carrier of the social, economic, and cultural development of Central Bosnia within the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. As a multiethnic area, the entirety of Central Bosnia has a special role in preserving the integrity and multiethnic nature of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The author's paper will elaborate on the most important development projects of the Central Bosnia Canton within the process of integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina into the European Union in the post-Dayton period. The focus will be on development projects in the field of economy with a focus on foreign investment as well as in the fields of transport, health, education and culture. The starting point is that innovative projects will achieve progress in the development of Central Bosnia in all fields of social development in the process of integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina into the European Union. The city of Travnik, as the seat of the Central Bosnia Canton, has the position of a gravitational center in connecting the common interests of 12 municipalities in the area of Central Bosnia.
